Trendy district with a particular charm:
Vorderer Westen

With its smart period buildings, iconic cafés and unusual concept stores, Kassel's Vorderer Westen is one of the documenta city's trendiest and most popular districts. All around Bebelplatz square and along Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse, you'll find many unusual concept stores and iconic cafés, whilst the Goetheanlage park is a popular place to meet, especially in the summer. Look forward to many surprising discoveries and new impressions, and to meeting some lovely people along the way!

More than just a pretty face!

The fact that Vorderer Westen is one of the documenta city's most popular residential areas is above all due to the numerous well-preserved period buildings you can admire here. With their richly decorated facades, turrets and bay windows, they are truly eye-catching. Especially around the Goethestern intersection, you'll find some genuine architectural gems you wouldn't mind moving into straight away. Also worth seeing is the impressive neoclassical-style portal of the Kassel Stadthalle venue, also known as Kongress Palais Kassel. By the way, the city can thank the famous local businessman Sigmund Aschrott for both the district as well as the Stadthalle. He also commissioned the idyllic Aschrott-Park, which is located in the western-most corner of the district.

You'll find everything you could possibly want here – whether cool boxer shorts from grandma's linen cupboard at Sokis, sustainable products from fashion to artworks at the Wild Wood Gallery & Store, becoming and precious clothing at hab selig, or ethical fashion at the Elsbeth Store. At Stadtliebe, you can also stock up on many unusual Kassel-related products for yourself and your loved ones – whether an Ahle Wurscht board or a raccoon-shaped lunch box. Wow! insider tip: Vorderer Westen street party

Photography Tip Vorderer Westen

One of the most popular photo spots in Vorderer Westen is the imposing neo-baroque style Friedenskirche church on Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse. It is also an extremely popular backdrop for the imaginatively dressed up visitors of the manga convention Connichi for some unusual pictures.
