01 soki: Sustainable for the bottom

Colourful boxer shorts made from old bed linen: where can you find such a thing? In Kassel of course! Since 2015, the green fashion label soki has done its tailoring in a spirit of sustainability in Kassel’s Vorderer Westen district. Here, the trained tailor Kira Kamm and her team transform old bed linen into colourful boxer shorts and bring out casual collections for the whole family twice a year. Upcycling at its best – made in Kassel!

02 KolorCubes: Colorful walls for Kassel!

Since 2015, the Kassel art project KolorCubes has produced large-format murals in the streets of the city - together with artists from all over the world and mainly in the Schiller district of Kassel. The KolorCubes WorkSpace is also located here, an open art studio with a culture office, in which workshops are offered and guided tours of the Public Art Gallery start.

03 DOKFEST

The Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival (DOKFEST) takes place annually for six days in November. The program includes around 250 national and international films each year, including many premieres. There is also a diverse accompanying program, ranging from a media art exhibition and an interdisciplinary symposium to the DokfestLounge with VJs and DJs, performances and parties.

04 Kulturzelt Kassel: Music and summer air at the Fulda river

When you come to Kassel, you should definitely also acquaint yourself with the districts of the documenta city. Each of them has its own unique atmosphere and is waiting to be discovered by you. The trendy Vorderer Westen district, for example, is dominated by imposing Wilhelminian-style buildings and invites you to go shopping in its concept stores. Nordholland is diverse and multicultural – this is where you will find the Public Art Gallery with colourful graffiti and murals. Kassel’s Südstadt district with its galleries also has a creative flair, and glamorous Bad Wilhelmshöhe and the urban east of the city are also worth a visit.

Romantic walks or extended runs, summer picnics or the blaze of colour of old giant trees in the autumn: you have the choice – and you can look forward to a wide variety of idyllic parks and gardens in Kassel, which will constantly provide you with new perspectives on the city and its highlights. And in case you are wondering why there is a conspicuous basalt column next to so many trees in Kassel: they are part of the documenta artwork “7000 Oaks”, with which the world-famous artist Joseph Beuys provided a number of green accents in Kassel!
